Our stories

“We were born for a reason, always be a blessing to others, God will repay us one way or another.”

My name is Claude Tawi, the first born of a Christian family that has eight children, including four boys and four girls. I am always passionate about working hard to help vulnerable children and women who need assistance.

Indeed, my motivation is rooted in the meaning of my name Tawi (branch) as quoted in the scriptures John 15, which states that “I am the true Vine (branch) and my father is the vine grower. Every branch that is in me that does not bear fruit he cuts off; and every branch that bears fruit he prunes, so that it bears even more fruit.” In harmony with this meaning and the responsibility of my name, I daily act so that the people around me benefit from my knowledge, my experience, my talents, means and the gifts of my life.

Today I am the executive director and founder of Hope for All and Together for Development. I launched this work for a number of reasons: First, in 1997 I was a victim of war in my country. When I was too young, I saw my whole village burnt down and my loved ones died before in my eyes. It was a traumatic event to grew up with, and when I was in high school and college, I thought day and night about how people were crying and suffering. I prayed to God to reveal to me how I could be a rescue, a real help in favor of women and children affected by war, and God opened a path for me through humanitarian services and worked in this capacity for two years.

But even more, God allowed me to be in contact with a wonderful and passionate missionary couple who came from the United States to work in Africa. This couple taught me how to serve the needy through the example of Christ's love and for four years we saved souls for God. Together, we impacted many families and their lives changed for the better. Unfortunately, as soon as we thought of our work as a success story, suddenly the mission got turned upside down when this couple's organization decided to close.

Based on the lessons learned, experiences gained, the successes observed and the high number of children and women affected by the war who need holistic help, I decided to continue the work with the Congolese by the Congolese for the Congolese. To work to empower women and children through skills building, leadership, education and entrepreneurship to restore hope and development.

Ultimately, to make this possible, in 2015   we organized our activities under HATD as a channel from which we make history and work to change the lives of people with the strength of the Holy Scriptures that remind us that a good church is the one that takes care of orphans and widows. I know that one day we will give account to God: “For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you welcomed me in, says the Lord.” Matthew 25:35
